Clinical Hypnotherapy
Clinical hypnotherapy involves the use of hypnosis, along with carefully written suggestions, to help you to change ideas that are held in the subconscious mind, enabling you to change the way you instinctively think about things, or to change the way you behave in certain situations.
Because clinical hypnotherapy deals with the subconscious mind, it enables you to make changes that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to make by other means.
However, clinical hypnotherapy is not a miracle cure. Clients must make a definite decision for themselves that they are going to resolve their problem, and for most clients, changes occur through the effort they make in their own time, completing activities designed to support the therapy provided during appointments at the clinic.
Our Approach to Hypnotherapy
At Think Hypnotherapy, we recognise that no two clients are the same, and two people with what appears to be the same problem may have very different needs, and the therapy process for each of them may be very different.
It is very important that clients are prepared to discuss their situation openly and honestly in clinic, even if the topics being discussed seem to be irrelevant. The information disclosed during sessions is used by the hypnotherapist to put together a programme of therapy, and it is important that this information is complete and accurate (to the best of the client's knowledge) in order to plan the most appropriate therapy for the client.
Common Questions About Hypnotherapy
- How many sessions will I need?
- The time that it takes to achieve the desired goal varies widely from person to person, depending on their background and circumstances, the nature of the problem they want to deal with, and their attitudes towards the hypnotherapy process and their ability to reach their goal.
- On average, most clients require between 3 and 5 sessions in the clinic. To support the work that takes place during clinic appointments, clients are set tasks to to at home between sessions. These include using a relaxation exercise, and may include using hypnotic therapy recordings that has been prepared to meet their individual needs. It is vital that these tasks are performed as instructed to get complete and long term benefits from hypnotherapy.
- How long is each session?
- The first session takes up to 1½ hours, follow-up sessions take between 45 minutes and 1 hour each.
- What happens in a clinical hypnotherapy session?
- At the first session a considerable amount of time is spent discussing your problem and the circumstances that surround it. It is vital that you are open and honest with your hypnotherapist, since the better they understand your problem, the circumstances that affect your problem, and the impact that the problem has on your life, the better they can put together a therapy programme that will work for you.
- If time permits and it is appropriate to do so, you will be guided into hypnosis and given basic confidence suggestions. Building confidence is often a very important first step in overcoming a problem through clinical hypnotherapy because the more confident and relaxed you feel about your ability to overcome a problem, the easier it is to actually overcome it.
- The content of follow-up sessions vary depending on the client's needs. It may be necessary to talk about a client's problem in more detail, otherwise the session may focus on reviewing progress to date, and guiding a client into hypnosis and delivering therapeutic suggestions.
