Self Hypnosis

"You could if you put your mind to it."

We've all heard it, but what exactly does it mean? And how do we put our minds to things?

Self hypnosis is the most simple and effective way to take charge of your own subconscious mind, allowing you to set your subconscious thinking to be in line with your conscious goals.

It is often considered that all hypnosis is self hypnosis, because it is the client's mind that goes into hypnosis in the clinic, not the hypnotherapist's, and when you use self hypnosis you experience exactly the same state of hypnosis that you would experience in the clinic with a hypnotherapist. The difference is that instead of relying on a clinical hypnotherapist to give you suggestions, you are able to give yourself suggestions, using your conscious mind as your "inner hypnotherapist".

Learning Self Hypnosis

Self hypnosis is a simple skill to learn, as long as you are able to put aside a few minutes each day to practice various relaxation and self hypnosis exercises, and you are able to maintain a level of concentration that allows you go into hypnosis.

At Think Hypnotherapy, self hypnosis is taught over three sessions in the clinic, each session being one week apart. Each session builds on skills learned in the previous session, and between sessions you are expected to spend a few minutes each day practising exercises designed to reinforce what was learned in the previous session and to improve your proficiency in using self hypnosis.

At the end of the three sessions you will have been taught how to:

  • Enter hypnosis at will using a rapid hypnosis induction method.
  • Give yourself suggestions while in hypnosis.
  • Word suggestions so that they appeal to your subconscious mind.

Questions About Self Hypnosis

Is self hypnosis dangerous?
Self hypnosis is not dangerous. As with any form of hypnosis you cannot be given suggestions against your will, and it is not possible to get "stuck" in hypnosis.
Will I learn to hypnotise other people?
No, you will not. When you learn self hypnosis, you are learning how to put yourself into hypnosis. The methods you learn do not allow you to hypnotise other people.
Do you offer self hypnosis classes for groups?
Think Hypnotherapy does not currently offer group classes for self hypnosis. All self hypnosis classes operate on a one to one basis and take place in the hypnotherapy clinic at Takanini.
